Potentiometers
The experimental apparatus has two potentiometers (Maurey Instruments 112-P19) attached to the shafts of the actuators to measure the angular position of each foot pedal.
The potentiometers are conductive plastic 5k rotary potentiometers with a linearity of +/-0.5% over a theoretical electrical travel of 340 degrees +/-5degrees.
Potentiometer Module Calibrations
The signals from the potentiometers are conditioned using custom built electronic modules (pot. module) which allow the gain and offset to be set. These modules were calibrated to have a sensitivity of 10V/rad (description of calibration method). A positive angle is measured during dorsiflexion whereas a negative angle is measured during plantarflexion. The final calibration curves for the left and right potentiometers can be found by clicking on the link below. The right potentiometer gain was set to -3.67 and the offset to -0.35. The left potentiometer gain was set to -3.59 and the offset to -0.4.
