Sequence of Steps to go through to Start Knee Experiment

The following list is a general overview of the steps that have to be done to start a knee experiment.

turn on main power supply for the filters, A/D, D/A converters (located under Frequency Device filters on main rack)

turn on the hydraulics

start the controller ( from workstation )

start the server488 program ( on the workstation )

start the Knee Experiment GUI ( from matlab on workstation )

select desired inputs in Knee Experiment GUI

Note that although some of the steps from above can be executed in a different order, the sequence of certain steps cannot be interchanged. For example, it should now be obvious that the matlab GUI will not be able to send its inputs to the actuator system if the server488 program is not running.

The loading process of the control program on the transputer chips is done through the iserver interface on the workstation. For more detail on this process, please read the A Client-Server System for Real-Time Control document. To find out how to compile and execute a program on the transputer network, please refer to the Compilation and Execution Procedure sections of this document.

The server488 program is started by entering server488 on the command line. The server488 executable should either be defined in your PATH or run from the path in the Resource Location page.

The Matlab GUI to use to run the knee experiments, and its path, is also listed in the Resource Location page.
