REKLAB manual (HYDRAULICS - ak)

Hydraulic history

The following presents a list of modification/repairs that where done on the hydraulic system from december 1994 until know.

december 1994 - There was a major leak in the hydraulic system. Magneto was called for repairs. They fixed the system and I think flushed the system at the same time. This involved changing all the filters. In order to localise the leak they added red dye to the hydraulic oil.

october 1996 - there were some minor problems with the hydraulic system - some hydraulic fluid was missing. The technician from magneto was called. We purchased 4, 20 liter barrels of hydraulic oil. 40 liters of oil was added to the tank and the filter was changed. Three small leaks were found. One in the lab (one of the fittings is leaking) - the company said it will come back to us on the estimated repair costs. Two other leaks where found in the basement (two joints). The estimated cost for this repair is around 700 to 800$.

28 november 1996 - there was an other major leak that was causing the system to lose hydraulic oil in great amounts. The leak was located on the pump downstairs. On of the joints just gave way. The technician came and replace it. So until further notice, everything should be ok. The cost of this little operation was of the roder of 30$.

6 February 1998 - the same type of leak as we had last time was detected at the pump down stairs. Mr. Mario Maltais came and assess the situation. We have asked not only to repair the leak but also to check the system in general. The expected cost of repairs and system evaluation will be probably around 500$.
An other concern is the noise that the hydraulics are causing in one of the rooms in pathology. We will have to ask Magneto to take a look at it and if the problem is serious to take actions.

Work Order

June 1998 - the pipe that connects the two hydraulic tanks had a leak. It was fixed.

June 1998 - two days later the main supply pipe burst. Practically the entire hydraulic fluid was pumped out of the system and the pump was dammage. The technician said that it will still work for some time but he wasn't able to give a correct estimate.

July 1998 - the pump was send for repairs. The verdict was that replacing the dammage part would cost the same thing as purchasing a brand new unit. We have decided to go with the new pump (around 870$ + TAX). Megnoto suppose to come withing a few days and install the new device.

July 1998 - at the same time as the pump was being send for repairs, the technician from magneto came and remove all the hydraulic components from the old Dr. Hollerbach's lab. The system was connected through a set of flexible tubing to supply line. The flexible tubing was removed and the ports on the supply line were sealed. This supply line is connected to the main supply line by a "T". These are metallic tubes which are mounted directly to the cealing and would be difficult to remove. All the pieces from the lab have been stored temporarly in REKLAB.

23 July 1998 - The pump has been replaced and tested. Everything seems to be in working order. We added a little bit more hydraulic fluid.
